OpenAI has launched OpenAI for Healthcare, a set of products designed to help providers deliver high-quality care for patients while supporting HIPAA compliance requirements. This includes ChatGPT for Healthcare.
ChatGPT for Healthcare has rolled out to several health systems, including AdventHealth, Baylor Scott & White Health, Boston Children’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, HCA Healthcare, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Stanford Medicine Children’s Health and University of California, San Francisco.

ChatGPT for Healthcare is built to support evidence-based reasoning for patient care while reducing administrative burden, according to OpenAI.
Organizations can bring clinicians, administrators and researchers into a secure workspace with role-based access controls to deploy AI across the teams.
Responses to clinical, research and operational work are powered through GPT‑5 models built for healthcare. These were evaluated through physician-led testing across benchmarks and real workflows, OpenAI said.
Answers are grounded in medical sources from peer-reviewed research studies, public health guidance and clinical guidelines, with citations given for quick source-checking.
Clinicians can reason through cases with greater confidence to get to the right diagnosis and treatment sooner, OpenAI said.
The system is integrated with enterprise tools such as Microsoft SharePoint and others so responses can incorporate an institution’s approved policies, pathway documents and operational guidance.
It has reusable templates to automate workflows and shared templates for common tasks such as drafting discharge summaries, patient instructions, clinical letters and prior authorizations.
Patient data and PHI remain under an organization’s control, with options for data residency, audit logs, customer-managed encryption keys and a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with OpenAI to support HIPAA-compliant use.
Content shared with ChatGPT for Healthcare is not used to train models.
The bottom line is clinical teams can use ChatGPT for Healthcare to integrate medical evidence alongside institutional guidance and apply it to a patient’s specific context, according to OpenAI.
OpenAI for Healthcare also includes OpenAI API to support HIPAA-compliant use and to reduce administrative burden.
THE LARGER TREND
The rollout of OpenAI for Healthcare follows by a day the launch of ChatGPT Health, which combines a person's personal health information with ChatGPT intelligence to help consumers navigate the healthcare system and answer everyday health and wellness questions.
The company also announced that it is partnering with health management platform b.well to allow users of ChatGPT Health to connect their personal medical records to ChatGPT. OpenAI said b.well will serve as the technical back end to securely access and unify an individual's health data.
