Tenor Health Foundation has received the required Pennsylvania Department of Health approval to acquire Wilkes-Barre General Hospital and two Lackawanna County hospitals, according to WVIA NPR.

The three Northeast Pennsylvania hospitals expected to be part of the acquisition are Wilkes-Barre General, Moses Taylor and Scranton Regional hospitals. No sales price has been given.

The hospitals are reportedly owned by Commonwealth Health System and have been the subject of concern due to their financial struggles. Lawmakers and community supporters have been fighting to keep the three hospitals open after an earlier effort to sell them to a different buyer fell through, the report said.

Tenor Health Foundation was established to ensure that financially struggling hospitals could survive, according to its website. Tenor said it intends to initially identify multiple facilities for potential ownership and be under contract with one to three hospitals. The projected total hospital revenues are $200 million to $300 million with a positive EBITDA of $10 million to $20 million per year.

U.S. Rep. Rob Bresnahan was reportedly a strong supporter in ensuring patient access to healthcare in the region. Bresnahan, R-Dallas Township, issued a release after a Wednesday afternoon Facebook post announced state approval of the ownership change, according to Fox56
